Ode To Miso Soup
Ian-Wen at one point become a student of miso soup. Many different types, concentrations, cooking techniques. All these trials were wonderful and we were the fortunate recipients of such a focused passion. So passionate was he indeed that he wrote an Ode to the simple and yet so exquisite and complex miso soup:
ODE TO MISO
Miso soup, lovely miso soup,
I love you too much to tell.
I love you so much,
I can’t get enough,
I wish I owned a miso-in-a-well.
Miso soup, tasty miso soup,
I kiss your salt-flavored lips.
Your taste is so fine,
So very refined,
Your flavor makes my heart do a flip.
Miso soup, beauteous miso soup,
Your swirls are enchanting to mine eyes.
The wondrous clouds of twirls,
The smoke rising in whirls,
Are most gorgeous when in my stomach they lie.
Miso soup, exquisite miso soup,
You come in so many different kinds.
There’s Awase and Shiro,
So many good misos,
All too many others I find.
Miso soup, kind miso soup,
Demanding is not what you are.
Just some veggies and tofu,
Add a cup of water too,
And in my breath do your scallions go far.
Miso soup, darling miso soup,
Please don’t let me be.
I want you,
I need you,
So please marry me.
