About

Welcome to Scutarius.

This blog will explore how the Bible calls the Christian and the church to live out their faith in the public square. How can we be like the men of Issachar, those men “who had understanding of the times” (1 Chr. 12:32), yet not be taken “captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ” (Col. 2:8)? As Christians in an increasingly secular world, the question of how we ought to bear the shield of our faith (Eph. 6:16) in the public square is of growing relevance and importance. How the Christian ought to think, and what the Christian ought to do in the public square are the inquiries central to this blog. I invite you to join me in seeking what it means to “do justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with [our] God” (Mic. 6:8) in the communities God has given us, as we learn what it means to “take every thought captive to obey Christ” (2 Cor. 10:5) and love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mar. 12:30).

Soli Deo Gloria.
