Cloth Diaper Roundup
With my first baby on the way very soon, a lot of my crafting energy lately has been going toward cloth diapers. I decided to go with cloth primarily for the money-saving benefits, so making my own seemed like an obvious choice. I ended up making a whole stash of pocket-style fitted diapers from T-shirts, receiving blankets, and flannel sheets using the Rita’s Rump Pattern. A set of 20 of these cost me less than $10 to make, since all my materials were either on-hand or thrift store finds. These are supposed to work from the newborn stage up through potty training (you fold down the front of the diaper when the baby is little), so I’m excited to see how they work on my little one in a few weeks. I’m planning to use a combination of cotton prefolds and microfiber inserts inside these for absorbency.

I also made a bunch of prefolds, which I will likely end up using as burp cloths.

And lastly, I’ve become a little bit obsessed with the idea of using wool covers, so I made a bunch of those as well, both knitted and up-cycled from old sweaters. I just finished lanolizing them (treating with Lanolin makes them waterproof), so they’re all ready for baby’s arrival. Here are a few of the ones I’ve made so far.
