Hello Again

I’ve decided it is finally time to take the plunge. I have been putting this off because I feel overwhelmed about how many months have gone by, and how many hundreds of pictures I have to sift through in order to do a thorough update on our lives. And since school has started again and I simply don’t have time to go through all those pictures right now, here’s the highlight reel of what we’ve been up to…

  • Jon finished second year of law school!
  • … and then immediately started a full-time internship with a prosecutor’s office in Michigan, where he got to do all kinds of lawyerly things, including plea agreements, arraignments, riding around on patrol with one of the county police officers, writing briefs, going to the shooting range, and conducting his first solo trial!
  • We took a week-long break in May to go to Princeton for Reunions, graduation (congratulations Alex!), and spending time with friends and family.  We got to spend a couple of days Wayne with Jon’s grandparents, and then stopped in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh on the way home to visit more friends.
  • We made several visits to Lake Michigan this summer with friends.  I was surprised to realize there are such beautiful beaches only half an hour from here!  We found a couple of great picnic spots, went hiking on the dunes, and even did some swimming once the water warmed up ;-).
  • We went to our county’s 4H fair (Jon’s first), where we sampled some local entertainment like pig racing, hatchet throwing, and eating tasty fried food.
  • We drove to Toronto in July for Peter and Bri’s wedding.  Although sad that we didn’t get to explore more of the city, we had a great afternoon walking around the Toronto botanical gardens with Rachel and Becca, friends from Charlottesville.  Such a fun mini Fellows reunion!
  • Jon’s parents came to visit in July.  We spent a wonderful day in Chicago with them at the Field Museum,  ate dinner at a Brazilian steakhouse (soooo delicious!!), and then enjoyed a relaxing weekend at home.  It was so much fun spending time with them and being able to show them a little of our life here.
  • Lucy and Katrina came to visit in August, and we got to take them to the lake, as well as explore the zoo in South Bend.  So thankful for great friends who were willing to travel all the way here to see us!
  • We celebrated our first anniversary with a short trip to Grand Rapids, MI just before Jon started fall classes.  We absolutely loved the city … beautiful architecture, great restaurants, and not very crowded.  We wrapped up our day there with a trip to a botanical and sculpture garden outside the city.  It was a great anniversary trip, and I can’t wait for all our years of celebration to come!
  • I started taking classes to finish my prerequisites for nursing school.  I’ve finished Intro to Psychology and am now taking Lifespan Development and Nutrition.  It’s busy trying to balance classes on top of work, but at least Jon and I get to have study parties now!

Here are a few pictures to go along with the highlights.
