Sewing Machine and More Decorating

Spring Break is finally here! Congratulations to Jon for being 3/4 finished with 2nd year of law school! We’re celebrating tonight with steak fajitas. Mmmm!

Sorry for another long lull on the blog.  It seems that I only find time to update it for food and crafts ;-).  I guess that says something about what we like to do in our free time!

So speaking of crafts … we had been saving for a sewing machine for awhile, and we finally found a great deal on Amazon for an entry-level machine. We ordered it a couple of weeks ago, and I’ve been having so much fun with it since it arrived!

My first project was to make some colorful pillows for our living room and bedroom.  I found some fun stripey fabric, and with a great sale at Jo-Ann Fabrics the pillows ended up being much cheaper than what I could have bought.  Pillows were also a great way to test out my new sewing machine :-).  Other than a few glitches at the beginning (why is it so hard to thread the bobbin correctly?) everything went very smoothly.  Here are some pictures of the end results!

First the bedroom…

And then the living room…

I also had fun making a sunburst mirror, similar to a project I found here. I used a plain round mirror, a package of bamboo skewers from the grocery store, a circle of cardboard, and a hot glue gun.  Such a fun and easy project, and I love how it looks in our living room!

Thanks to Jon for all the beautiful pictures for our blog! We’re enjoying doing this together … he takes the pictures and edits them for me, and I get to write about them and post them. Hooray for complementarity!
