He is Risen!
He is risen indeed!
On Sunday we hosted an Easter dinner with our friends Nate and Grace and Nathan and Laura to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior. We had a wonderful time worshiping and celebrating together, though unfortunately we didn’t end up taking very many pictures (and Jon somehow only managed to take pictures of the food ;-)). We had appetizers, followed by singing Easter hymns, and then a delicious dinner.
Jon: Note that the appetizers included BACON! Since Easter marks the beginning of the New Covenant, we thought it appropriate to include a food that was previously impermissible for those living under the Old Covenant, but was legitimized in the New. Thus, we chose BACON to represent the cadre of legitimized foods, and to remind us of one more thing that Christ did for us on the cross. And it was delicious. Cooked in cast-iron, of course. Sadly, we ate all of it before I remembered to take a picture. But rest assured: the whole plateful was enjoyed by all 🙂
Jon: We all brought multiple things, so we ended up with lots of very tasty dishes, like slow-cooked garlic-and-herb-infused pot roast, tri-cheese mac and cheese, Tennessee cast-iron cooked corn bread, candied walnut salad, sweet potato casserole with 1.5x butter, green bean casserole topped with frizzled onions, and a host of scrumptious desserts which are described/depicted below…
We played several games after dinner and enjoyed three scrumptious desserts. Nate made a panna cotta and chocolate hazelnut semifreddo, and Laura brought a beautiful carrot cake. We were all too full to move afterward, but it was such a joyful evening!
Jon: My apologies for not taking pictures of the main courses. Or of people. I was hungry…
